The danger of interpretation

Reading around different blogs it’s interesting to see the issues which generate the most posts. the responses are always interesting too. Often you’ll find responses starting with those magical words ‘well the Bible says……’

As soon as i read that in a response I instantly worry about what is coming next. What piece of scripture is going to be used to back up this persons opinion? will it, as is often the case, be taken completely out of context? Will it be a piece of text that could just as easily be used to support the opposing side of the same argument?

Don’t get me wrong, I think searching the scriptures for answers to life’s tough questions is excellent. We just need to be so careful about the way in which we edit that which we read.

maybe these videos will help explain that anything can be taken and edited to show something quite different from the intended!
