Oh we do like a beer beside the seaside…..
Life’s a beach in Bradford this weekend when Bradford Brewery hosts its first-ever summer beach party.
The brewery beer garden, off Westgate, will be transformed into a seaside paradise complete with sand, swimming pool, beach barbeque ….and hopefully some sun. No sangria though – just great craft beers and cocktails courtesy of Al’s Dime Bar with their Pop-up Liquor Barn.
The holiday starts on Saturday at noon, when Al’s – the American cocktail bar from round the corner on North Parade, arrives for its now-legendary beer garden take-over.
There will be summer sounds throughout the day from Nervous ‘Orse, The Washboard Resonators, The Abiders, Conor Griffiths and Craig Brauns.
Brewery boss Matthew Halliday said: “The summer holiday season is here and lots of folk are heading off to the Med and other exotic hotspots. But with so much great stuff happening in our city right now, a lot of us don’t want to miss anything by going away, so we thought we’d provide a little beach resort right here in the heart of Bradford.”
Stevie Le Shaw of Al’s Dime Bar said: “The Dime Bar Massive will be infiltrating the Bradford Brewery beach party to add a little bit of California Dreamin’ to the proceedings. We’ll be serving up Tropical cocktails, plentiful liquor and select American craft beers. All our favourite minstrels will be coming along to wow the crowds with their musical magic. All you need to bring is your shades, sunscreen and flip -flops. Surf’s up dudes!”
The take-over will also be followed by an after-party at Al’s from 8pm.
And it’s hoped the sun will shine on the righteous on Sunday (Aug 9) when the brewery’s well-loved St Arnold’s Pub Church brings its own little taste of Paradise to the party with a session of Beer & Hymns on the beach from 4pm to 7.30pm. There will be time-honoured accompaniment on the keyboard by Cornerstones Methodist Church organist Angie Brown.
Pub Church Minister Rev Graeme Dutton said: “For August, we felt a celebration of God’s good creation and the glorious British summertime would be appropriate. There will be classic hymns, delicious craft ale and all the best things from the beautiful Yorkshire coast re-created right here in a city centre beer garden. No wonder we are feeling blessed this summer!
“We would love everyone to join us – as always, the invitation is to people of all faiths or no faith at all – just to soak up some great summer holiday atmosphere and have a really good sing-along in our very own Bradford-on-the-Sands.”
